Beautiful Days Press is an “NYC”-based publisher of poetry chapbooks and other printed matter. We also publish poetry & critical prose in our online journal, Works and Days.

Why Beautiful Days? Because we exist in an undefined interregnum between dystopia – all our beautiful days are in the past – and utopia – the beautiful days are yet to come.

what kind of writing would make the days more beautiful?

the patiently unfolding sequence, not the fast-casual epiphanic snack;

the lyrical, the austere, the anti-lyrical;

poems that resist in some way the commodity-sorting mechanisms of confession; shy poems;

works that tease reenchantment, flirt w/ the vatic, test magic utterances;

translations, particularly of texts and poetry that defy expectations of “national” literatures; 

belated works who lapse unapologetically, if only for a moment, into repetitions of Romantic cliche (horror, aggression, rebellion, boredom, decadence, spleen); 

critical works seeking to salvage a poetry upstream of theory; (overly) researched works;

occasional works, odes, paeans, love poems, friend poems, animal poems, poems of wonder;

poems that flaunt their excess (play, punning, obsessions, constraints, repetitions, gimmicks, personas, mistakes, lists, jargons, distractions, etymologies, footnotes, letters, collaborations, language games, rabbit-holes, multilingualism, babble);

blueprints of new cities, new cosmologies, new commons, new maps, new languages, new gods;

works that toy with genre writing’s world-building and that are agnostic about their categorization;

works that lose the self in abstractions, visions, hallucinations; optical works;

works against work, works against the working of capital;

works between sense and the end of all sense, future and the end of all futures, the beautiful days and whatever’s before and/or after.
